Kayla Buhl Alix has over 20 years in the Information Technology industry. She received her MBA in 2016 from the University of Houston-Downtown. Kayla is also a co-founder and Executive Director of Changing Hearts And Mind Program (C.H.A.M.P) 501c3 organization, that serves Veterans and their families transitioning from the military.

Kayla Alix, a mentor for young students, provides guidance and assistance in the area of STEM. She is on the board of Making Awesome Things Happen (M.A.T.H.) an organization that offers Math Camps during the summer for under-served students of color.

Kayla recently ran as a candidate for the Texas State House of Representatives, District 129 during the 2020 election cycle. Her platform; Veterans, Education, Healthcare, and Healthy Communities. She received 42% of the votes in a heavily Republican-based area. Although she fell short by 8 percentage points, she will continue her advocacy for causes ensuring investment in our communities is equitably funded and served.

Kayla is married to Samuel Alix; they have five children and four grandchildren.

Rev. Verronda Flanagan is an, Evangelist, Holy Spirit filled Preacher who loves God and devotes her time, gifts, and resources to the work of building God’s Kingdom.  Her passion is growing vibrant ministries and investing in the young while identifying ways to build strong communities of faith through outreach. and is currently serving at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church as an Associate Pastor of adult ministries and the children/youth pastor.

 

She is a native Houstonian. Verronda has been a member of the Methodist Church all her adult years. She has worked in Corporate America as a Sr. VP in HR Management for 16 years, and in Higher Education, Mid High and Elementary Schools in various roles.  

 

Verronda began her journey of being a servant leader in ministry for 22 years at Windsor Village United Methodist Church.  Rev. Verronda answered God’s divine call to pastoral ministry in 2008.  She will be continuing her studies SMU Perkins School of Theology.  

 

She has served at New World UMC as a Praise and Worship Leader and Director of Ministries, Sr. Pastor of Mallalieu United Methodist Church, Sr. Pastor of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hempstead, Texas. Under her leadership, the church ignited its mission to be a community of faith by collaborating with the Hispanic community, identifying ways to support and provide resources for persons that had been incarcerated and partnered with the local churches to diversify the ministry.  

 

Her anointed preaching, teaching and sharing the uncompromised word of God affirms she has been ignited by the Holy Spirit to enrich, encourage, challenge and inspire the hearts and souls of God’s people in all communities.
